TMSP Hosts Shopping Spree For Food Pantry

The Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership (TMSP) recently received a grant from the Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match Program.  The funding received was used by TMSP to organize a project in conjunction with Ticonderoga Central School students and teachers to collect and donate food to the local food pantry as part of a community giveback event. Recently a group of students organized by Teacher Jay Wells were provided a $1,000 budget collectively in which they then used to shop for as much food as possible for the food pantry. Students were broken up into teams and competed to see who can spend more wisely and obtain the most non-perishable foods. Teachers acted as mentors for the student-teams.

“Thank you most sincerely to the Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership for obtaining the grant for the students to go on the shopping spree. As I walked through the store, I met a couple of the teams, and they were busy. They seemed to be enjoying the event. We received many useful items that will be appreciated by our clients. A big thank you to the Ticonderoga High School as well,” commented Margaret Beuerlein, Food Pantry Director.

TMSP is an all-volunteer organization that works to improve the Ticonderoga community and to revitalize Downtown Ticonderoga. In this effort, they continue to work closely with the local schools and involve the students in their community events and service projects whenever possible.

“For the last several years, Ticonderoga High School (THS) students and teachers have worked with us to help stock the food pantry. We appreciate the continued support from Stewarts Shops to make this event possible. This should be both a learning exercise for the students as well as community service to benefit needy families in our area,” shared John Bartlett.

Street Art Project 2017 - Adirondack Chairs

The Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership (TMSP) and the TMSP Promotions Committee are pleased to announce that this year’s 2017 Street Art Project is the return of “Adirondack Chairs.” This is the seventh Street Art Project organized by TMSP.

The Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership (TMSP) invites businesses and organizations to sign up to be a 2017 Street Art Auction project sponsors. A limited quantity of Adult and Child Adirondack Chairs will be available and they are on a first come first serve basis. You can sign up by contacting the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce (TMSP Coordinator) at 518-585-6619 or by calling Libby’s Bakery Café at 518-558-1522.

Hand-painted Adirondack Chairs will be on display in front of or at Ticonderoga businesses and organizations beginning in May. Community members and visitors are invited to check out the uniquely designed Adirondack Chairs as well as stop by the dedicated businesses and organizations in Ticonderoga sponsoring this project. Product sponsor is Tierney Adirondack Rustic Design of Ticonderoga who has handmade each of the Adirondack Chairs.

The initial street art project was wooden soldiers “Soldiers on Parade”, followed by Adirondack chairs “Relax in the Adirondacks”,  bird houses “For the Birds”, “Adirondack Benches”, “Adirondack Rain Barrels”, “Pallets”, and now the return of the popular Adirondack Chairs.

The goal of the street art project is to decorate sidewalks, businesses, and organizations with hand-crafted, hand-painted art work done by local artists as well as raised funds for a Montcalm Street project. Anyone can participate by sponsoring a pallet, being an artist and being creative with your favorite theme, or attending the auction which will be held at the end of the summer (date to be announced).

“We hope to have many businesses and organizations sign up to be Street Art Sponsors for the 2017 project. Join us to brighten the community through art. Your enthusiasm and support can be contagious for the entire community. Show your support as we all work together to make the Ticonderoga an exceptional place to live, work, and visit,” shared Katy Rasmus – Street Art Project & Auction Co-Chair.
